Today, many textbooks are published in both print format and digital formats.

The students and teachers have welcomed the new syllabus issued by the Tamil Nadu State Board. With the growth of digital applications for iPhone, and gadgets like the Amazon kindle, e-textbooks are not an innovation, but have been "gaining momentum". According to the article " Are textbooks obsolete?", publishers and editorials are concerned about the issue of expensive textbooks. "The expense of textbooks is a concern for students, and e-textbooks, address the face of the issue, Williams says " As publishers we understand the high cost of these materials, and the electronic format permit us diminish the general expense of our content to the market".

Some of the features of the new textbooks are:
Upgraded visual representations.
Clearly explained lessons in simple language.
Internet activities page having website/mobile links.
QR codes that help students directly access information about specific topics.





The new curriculum facilitates application-oriented education that includes more hands-on activities and skill developing techniques. Different evaluation patternshave been incorporated to test the students’ grasping power, memoryand expression of knowledge. The revised syllabus presents an interdisciplinary approach, besides accommodating critical issues such as waste management, entrepreneurship, marginalized rights and legal education. It also has a separate ICT component for all subjects, to expose the students to IT early. The ICT corner is imbibed into each subject through touch devices.
